Fishing Report, March 5

Cold mornings with highs in the low 30’s has kept ice fishing conditions very good. I feel like the cold mornings are going to be here until early next week. I feel like ice fishing is a good call for the next week or so. How about the river? The Flathead River is fishing great right now. Good nymphing and decent streamer fishing. As the weather warms up, hopefully, the river will get better and better. Fishing Report, March 5

Fishing Report, Whitefish

Fishing Report, whitefishWhitefish Lake is still in good condition. We are seeing 6-8” of ice in a few spots. I would expect it to be safe until Monday or so. White tubes with cut bait are still effective. Fish seem to be pretty chasey in the mornings and then they become less interested as we get closer to 11:00. once they get weird consider deadsticking right on the bottom. It seems they like the deadstick more when they get weird. Perch fishing north or Whitefish is good too. The perch seem to be pre spawn. Big fatties lying on the bottom and eating in the mud. Fishing Report, Kalispell

The Flathead River is a great option now. The river is flowing at 3500cfs and temps are peaking at 37 on the warm days. The river has been giving up some nice cutthroat and rainbows. Nymphing is the most productive for sure. Deep rigs at 10′ with worms and stoneflies are getting eaten. Surprisingly the old girdle bug is getting the most love. Deep slow water is the key to finding them. Olive sparkle bugger, old standby, is the best on a streamer rod. Deep, slow, and close to the bottom. Pauses seem to be when most of the grabs happen. If the deeper water isn’t working then look towards the banks in the dead water. You’d be surprised…
