Fishing Report, April 2
Alright, so, ice fishing’s officially done for the year, and man, what a season it was! We hit the ice super early, and it held out way longer than we expected, until last week. Me and the whole ice crew? We just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone who came out with us. You guys made it awesome! We’re already counting down to December and another ice-filled season.
On the river front, we’ve been running trips for the past month, and things have been pretty good. The Flathead’s sitting at 7340 cfs, and we hit 41 degrees today. We’ve had a bit of rain the last few days, but the flows are still dropping, which is good. Clarity’s around 2-3 feet, and the fishing’s been solid. Nymphing’s been the top producer, and streamers are getting some love too. It’s been a good time. Let’s just hope this rain doesn’t mess with the clarity. I’ll keep you posted on how things look.
Fishing Report, Whitefish
Okay, so, weather’s looking decent! After tomorrow, anyway. We’re talking sunny days, highs in the 50s, and those chilly 30-degree nights. That’s pretty much perfect for the Flathead. The forks are dropping, and I’m betting they’ll keep doing that through the weekend. Which means good clarity, so the fish can actually see what you’re throwing. Nymphing with worms, pink weight flies, scuds, and eggs are working great. Basically, think spring patterns. Nothing too fancy needed right now… yet.
And hey, the lakes are starting to thaw out, which is awesome. They’ll be fishing well as soon as they’re ice-free. Some of those lower-level lakes are already wide open and producing. Rainbows in one spot, pike in another. I’ll keep you guys posted on the lake scene as things change. For now were on the river and will be on the lakes plenty when the river blows out and goes full runoff. Enjoy these river days while we have them!
Fishing Report, Kalispell
Okay, so, the Blackfoot and Missouri? Yeah, they’re a bit of a drive from Kalispell, but hey, they’re worth talking about. The Blackfoot’s running pretty high for this time of year, 1290 cfs, and temps are hitting 42 to 45 degrees. It’s starting to level off, though, so it should clear up in a few days, maybe mid-week. With those warmer water temps, bugs are gonna start showing up. Think dries, folks! And streamers? Always a solid bet in the spring. Some of my best streamer days have been on the Blackfoot this time of year. Those browns get a little extra spicy in these cooler temps and are ready to eat.
Now, the Missouri? It’s been great! Solid nymphing action, and a good start to the streamer season. Once things warm up a bit more, we might see some more fish looking up for dries. a few are looking at midges right now so get out there and hunt down some noses.
