Fishing Report, April 24

Is it spring or summer? It’s been feeling pretty awesome the last few weeks. Sunny and warm days with great fishing… It’s been an amazing April so far. It looks like we are going to get some rain and have a cool down through Monday. The Flathead River is flowing at 12500 CFS.  Hungry Horse dam bumped the flows significantly yesterday adding 3000 cfs to the main stem. The forks look like they just bumped up with some runoff. Let’s see what happens the next few days with the rain. Water temps are peaking at 45 in the middle of the day. Bugs everywhere…

Fishing Report April 24

Fishing Report, Whitefish

The Flathead River has been fishing great the last week or so. The river cleared up and the fish are looking up. Dry flies all day long. Royal Chubby with a purple haze has been very productive. I’m pretty sure our last 3 trips were all dry flies, no nymphing needed to catch fish. Over the next few days I’ll keep you up to date on how the rain and the runoff is effecting the river.

Fishing Report, Kalispell

The local lakes are fishing great. Pike are active and very willing to eat your pike flies. Floating lines and normal leaders are working great. Big red and white pike flies are also the most productive. Keep’m moving with some pauses and they’ll come find your flies. Rogers Lake is also fishing great right now with lots of grayling and some nice cutthroat. Midges under a balanced leech seem to be the most productive.

Fishing Report, Missouri River

The Missouri River is fishing great right now. Flows are 3640cfs and temps peaked at 45 today. Lots of bugs on the water. BWO’s all over the place and blankets of midges. Nymphing is solid with pill poppers and sow bugs being my most productive nymphs. Streamer fishing is solid too. Even in the sun it’s been great the last 3 days. Some days or hours you have to work harder but at the end of the day fish counts are good and some fish over 20″ eating.
