Fishing Report, February 27

Another great week of ice fishing. The weather has been pretty warm making it very enjoyable on the ice. With all this warm weather you’d think the ice would be getting thiner but that’s not been the case. It doesnt seem like we’ve lost much if any ice out there. The weather for the next week is looking pretty wintery… Snow in the hills and night time temps below freezing. Ice season continues!

Fishing Report, Whitefish

Whitefish Lake is still giving it up! Good ice conditions and great fishing! Fish deep and fish white tubes with cutbait and you should be able to catch them. Where to start? Look for big flat areas in between basins. It seems like they are roaming that stuff looking for food. Bottoms of big drops are hot too. The Lakers seem to like that type of structure for whatever reason. Steep drops are holding fish too. The ones so steep your graph shows a false bottom. Hit the bottom and real up one crank… Wait for the tap. How we used to do it before all the electronics.

Fishing Report, Kalispell

The Flathead River is fishing great right now when the conditions are right for it. Sunny days are really good. Cloudy and warm days are good… Cloudy, cold, and s#!tty? Not as good, but you can still catch fish. The warmer and sunnier the better. Nymphing is how you’ll catch the most fish. Streamers are number 2. Dry fly guy? You might get one if you try really hard and don’t miss it if it eats. Find that slow and shallow water and roll a big black and red. Keep putting it in that water and I bet you could find one. Over the years I’ve seen plenty of great eats this time of year in that water.
