Fishing Report, February 9
Since the last report, we’ve continued to have great ice conditions and fishing. Most places have great safe ice with not much slush on top of it. Fish have been very active too, thanks to a low-pressure system sitting on top of us. The weather forecast is looking pretty good for the next week is looking pretty good too. Highs in the 30’s with lows in the 20’s. Great ice building and fishing weather.
Fishing Report, Whitefish
North of Whitefish is really good for perch and pike. Both have been active and willing to eat. Perch seem to be a little prespawn right now. Fish out deep, fish shallow, females getting full of eggs, and males in the mix. With some bigger perch showing up you may want to consider releasing the bigger fish you catch. Putting the bigger ones back keeps the genetics in the mix. We all like keeping fish for some dinner, but it’s worth considering releasing the big ones if you like catching them.
Fishing Report, Kalispell
If you’re looking for some bigger fish, namely Lakers, then consider west of Kalispell. Mornings are the most productive. Get there in the dark and expect things to slow down around 10ish. We’ve been finding Lakers in the deeper water. Start at 100 and go from there. Big white tubes with cut bait are effective. Big jigs to get their attention and then slow it down when they show up on the screen.
