Fishing Report, June 27
TGIF! It’s Friday, and what a perfect way to kick off the weekend with this fishing report. Summer truly feels like it’s arrived in Montana! We’ve been enjoying a fantastic mix of warm days, punctuated by a few welcome rain showers, making for some excellent conditions across our rivers. The Flathead, Clark Fork, and Blackfoot Rivers are all fishing great right now. Looking ahead, the weather forecast is holding strong with plenty of sunshine and temperatures consistently in the 80s for the next week or so, promising continued prime summer action on the water.
Fishing Report, Whitefish
The Flathead River is absolutely dialed in right now, flowing at a fantastic 6800 CFS with water temperatures peaking around a fish-friendly 58 degrees on sunny days. The clarity is excellent, and the fish are exactly where they should be. We’ve been consistently seeing beautiful Westslope Cutthroat, with an occasional rainbow adding to the mix.
Dry flies are definitely getting eaten – think your typical Chubbies and some mayfly patterns, though Chubbies are mostly stealing the show. Nymphing remains solid too, with worms and stoneflies proving very effective. The fish are holding strong in the riffles, and we’re starting to see a few move to the banks too. Expect some changes in fish location soon as they adjust to conditions, but overall, the Flathead is shaping up to offer fantastic full and half-day trips for the rest of the month.
Fishing Report, Kalispell
If you’re based in the Flathead area and craving new water with the chance for bigger fish, the Clark Fork and Blackfoot Rivers are excellent full-day choices. While they’re about a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from most places in the Flathead, an early start can mean fewer boats and even better fishing. You’ll find chunky Cutthroat and fat rainbows on the Blackfoot, and great rainbows and cuttbows on the Clark Fork. Dry-dropper rigs are absolutely ruling on both rivers right now, with Salmonflies, Golden Stones, PMDs, and Caddis all on the water daily.
