Fishing Report, November 30

It’s the last day of November today and where did it go? Gone… Just like that. The last week we’ve had some great fishing on the river. Fly fishing trips for trout have been spectacular and spin fishing trips for Lake Superior Whitefish have been productive. Same old story then… How about some new news Rob? Ice fishing is starting to shape up nicely. It’s been cold the last few weeks and the ice is coming along nicely. We haven’t had much snow lately and that’s a good thing for ice conditions. What ice we have is clear and hard which is what we want. The weather forecast is showing a cool down then some snow and maybe rain on the way. I’ll keep you in the loop with ice conditions as they shake out. Fishing Report November 30_1

Fishing Report, Kalispell

The coldest areas are west of Kalispell. Get on Highway 2 and head west. There are a good number of lakes in this area and there is ice out there. Proceed with caution if you head out on early ice. I’m a big fan of the spud bar. 4 hits on clear ice and you should have 4-5″ of ice. That’s what you’re looking for. 2-3 hits then I would not recommend going out any further. Early ice is usually very productive. Most of the time fish are very active and willing to eat your jigs. You can be more aggressive with your tactics. I like to fish aggressively and keep moving. No reason to hunker down and grind it out this time of year.

Fishing Report, Whitefish

Near Whitefish the Flathead River is a good call. Fly fishing trips for trout and conventional tackle for Lake Superior Whitefish are very productive. We are seeing some bigger Cutthroat trout in the river. Nymphing is the most productive for sure. Worms and scuds are on the menu. For Lake Superior Whitefish the green and gold tube on a 1/8 jig head is hot! The bit has been very subtle on whitefish so pay attention to those little “Donks”. If you’re looking to increase your catch rate on whitefish detecting those subtle takes is the key. Sometimes they grab it but most days it’s very subtle. Feel for those weird takes and you’ll start to pick up on it. setting on those little “Donks” is the key to more fish to the boat.
