Fishing Report, January 4
January is off to a bang! Fishing has been great and the weather has been very nice for winter. The slush we got from last week’s warm weather is pretty much all gone and most lakes have firmed up nicely. The next week is still going to be cold at night with temps right around freezing during the day. Throw in some cloud cover and the fish should stay happy. Tune in on Friday for an up-to-date ice report for a few new lakes that should be in the safe zone.
Fishing Report, Whitefish
North of Whitefish has been really good the last week. We are seeing lots of perch. Some days more small fish but some days we’re getting some really nice perch. bigger pike and a few lake trout. It seems like every day is a new day. Some days they’ll chase up and eat your jigs like they’re mad at you. Then some days you have to coax them in and finesse them to eat. Kokanee Salmon are next on the list. I’ll be posting an ice report for Beaver Lake on Friday. How about Whitefish Lake? It’s been putting out some really nice lakers. Ice is definitely on the edge of safe and unsafe. Use caution when heading out there. Keep on that clear and hard 4” of ice. I wouldn’t push the envelope out there. If you’re looking to learn how to catch fish through the ice on Whitefish Lake then give a call and I’ll get you set up with a great guide out there. It’s not a trip for everyone but if you’re a small group and serious about Whitefish Lake we’ll put you on some fish!
Fishing Report, Kalispell
Kalispell is also fishing great! Smith Lake is giving up good numbers of pike. The perch are a bit hard to find most days but pike are active and fun to catch. Echo Lake is getting into the safe zone. Kokanee, smallmouth, and perch are active on Echo. Some of the soughs in the lower Flathead are fishing well for pike and crappie. Rainbow trout just west of Kalispell is an option too. There is plenty of good ice fishing in and near Kalispell.
