Fishing Report, March 2
Where in the world did February go? Gione in a blink of an eye! March is here and dont blink to many times or it’ll be April. Winter is holding on giving us some good snow and cold temps this coming week. Some years we get some serious snow in March and April. This always helps our snow pack for later in the summer.
Fishing Report, Whitefish
Ice fishing is still a good option in the Whitefish area. Whitefish Lake is on the cusp of not being safe anymore but… Looking at night-time temps we could get a few more days of safe conditions. I like the lows in the teens to help keep things solid out there. Daytime temps are below freezing too which helps things stay hard out there. North of Whitefish there is a lot of good safe ice. Some places we are still seeing 2′ of ice. Perch fishing is good up there too. Fish are starting to act prespawn. Big perch hugging the bottom and not moving up in the column. This is when I love using cameras. Play the mud big game and you’ll get some bigger perch.
Fishing Report, Kalispell
Ice is getting a little weird in Kalispell so let’s talk about the Flathead River. The Flathead is fishing good right now. Warm and sunny days are best out there. Kind of like us Montanans… If it’s warm and sunny out we’re out playing! With that said we’ve had some great trips on the colder days with no sun. So probably the best time to get out there and fish is when you can. Nymphing is the most productive for sure. if you’re a streamer guy then you might be able to hang a few on a streamer. Bigger fish this time of year with cutthroat and rainbows in the mix.
