Fishing Report, May 3
Cooler weather in the Flathead lately has the Flathead River fishing pretty good. Nymhing is solid and the dry fly fishing isn’t bad when the bugs are around. The weather is looking wet and cool for the next 7 days. I like seeing this weather, we can always use the rain in the low elevations and snow in the high country. Money in the bank for the summer time.
Fishing Report, Whitefish
The Flathead River is flowing at 12,500 CFS and temps are peaking at 43.5 in the heat of the day. The north and middle forks are on a solid drop. Great conditions on the river right now and it’s fishing good. We are seeing some really nice rainbows and cutthroat trout. Dry fly fishing is pretty good too. Bugs out and fish looking up. I’m thinking that the Flathead River is going to hold out for another week or so. If we get lots of rain then the river will blow out. If it just stays cold and not much rain then it’ll stay good. Keep an eye on the graph and see what it does.
Fishing Report, Kalispell
The lakes in the Kalispell area are fishing good right now. Grayling are on fire, pike are chowing and some smallmouth are getting caught. If you’re into pike now is the time. Fish are post spawn and looking to eat. Fish big pike flies on a floating line over weed bed structure and they’ll come find your fly. Wire leaders are a must and so are strip sets. Lots of fishing charging the fly as you pick it up to cast… Pay attention and be ready for a strike at the boat. Figure 8 is a great idea… I’ve been liking the red and white pike flies lately. Pink has had it’s days too… This time of year you never know what color they’ll want to chase down and eat.
