Fishing Report, December 2

Another cold week behind us and it looks like we’ll be “cold” for the next few days with a bit of a warm-up through the weekend. After that the extended forecast is looking cold again. Some marginal ice out there but nothing even close to the safe zone yet… Actually not even close to the sketchy zone yet. I’ll keep you updated as conditions change. For now, the river is fishing good. Fly fishing for trout has been productive and spin fishing for whitefish has been great too. Fishing Report December 2

Fishing Report, Whitefish

The Flathead River is in good shape right now. Flows are steady at 3420cfs and temps are peaking at 40 on sunny days. I would expect the river to warm up a few degrees with the sunshine we’re supposed to get in the next few days. Nymphing has been solid. Worms and scuds are getting eaten the most. Streamer fishing is ok… One day I’ll see a few on streamers and a few days later nothing… Roll of the dice with the streamer rod right now. All and all fly fishing trips are good right now. You could expect to see anywhere from 2-6 trout on 1/2 day trips.

Fishing Report, Kalispell

Lake Superior Whitefish has been good on the flathead rive lately. Spinning rods with tubes are definitely getting eaten. It doesn’t seem like the whitefish are everywhere but when you find them there’s usually a bunch there. Look in the bigger back eddies and you’ll find them. I’m not finding them in the faster stuff so I think they’re doing their spawning things and not really moving a lot. I’ve also seen a few nice cutthroat hanging with the whitefish. If you’re looking for a hard fighting fish on a spinning rod then Lake Superior Whitefish are it!
