Fishing Report, January 22
Nice to get a cold blast for the last week! Below zero temps have put a few more lakes on the map. New lakes mean new fish to chase… The next week we are showing night time temps in the teens and highs in the 20’s. That’s some great ice making weather folks!
Fishing Report, Whitefish
Things have changed a bit north of Whitefish. We’ve moved our trips closer to Whitefish. Better fishing and bigger fish. Perch is mainly what we’ve been targeting with Pike on tip ups. It’s a great lake with great scenery and not many folks are fishing it. It’s a great trip! Whitefish Lake is still wide open with no ice. We are going to need some pretty cold weather to get Whitefish Lake to cap. Usually a week to ten days of below zero and it’ll make some ice. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and maybe it’ll happen. There are some outlying lakes in the Whitefish area that are fishing good. Grab a map and start looking for those blue holes. I bet you’ll find some good ice fishing…
Fishing Report, Kalispell
Lakes west and east of Kalispell are starting to freeze up with a few in the safe zone. Still, walk out with caution and check ice thickness often. 4” of clear hard ice should be your minimum. I would strongly discourage using 4-wheelers and snowmobiles right now. Someone already put their 4 wheeler through the ice at Echo Lake. McGreggor is still not capped, I’m a little surprised it’s not capped yet. I would expect it to be capped by the end of this weekend. Perch activity out west has been great. Good fish and really fun fishing. Move around and keep fishing in new areas. That’s the key to getting bigger fish out there. Smallmouth and Lake Superior Whitefish action has been good too. Yesterday we did really good on Smallmouth and a few Whitefish. Good day!
