Fishing Report, January 26

We survived the crazy cold front that just came through. After a week of super cold temps, it almost feels like summer right now. Highs in the 30’2 and lows in the 20’s for the next few days then temps bumping into the 40’s. Crazy weather for sure. Word is there is another artic front that’s gonna hit us after this warm spell is over. I’m guessing around February 10 or so.

Fishing Report, Whitefish

Whitefish Lake has been fishing good the last week or so. The ice was safe in a few areas and the lakers were very willing to eat white tubes with some meat on them. We seemed to find the best action in deeper water, around 100-120′. With that said we did find some fish in 80′, due to thin ice conditions in deeper water. As of now, Whitefish Lake is not a safe option. Ice is getting thinner by the day and not worth the risk. North of Whitefish there is good ice but lots of slush. The slush factor is real folks. Be prepared to keep your feet dry. Rubber boots are key. Make sure you have those Mucks on and you’ll be good. Fish are very active and willing to eat. Fishing is good and so is the slush.

Fishing Report, Kalispell

Slush is the word in the Kalispell area too. It’s gonna be hard to get away from slush for the next week or so. Head west and you’ll find colder areas that have less slush than others. Ice conditions are good in most places too. The smaller and shallower lakes have 7-9″ of good hard clear ice. Bigger lakes had 4-6” yesterday but I’d expect that to start to change. The good news is if we get a good cold snap all this slush is going to lock up and we’ll have so much more ice. I’ll keep you in the loop on how things shape up.
