Fishing Report, June 11

Good news from our neck of the woods! Spring runoff appears to be wrapping up a bit early this year, and that means the Flathead River has been in absolutely fantastic shape. In fact, all our local freestones – the Clark Fork, the Blackfoot, and the Flathead – have been fishing great. We do have some rain and cooler temperatures in the forecast for the next few days, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on river conditions. However, I’m optimistic that everything should remain good to go through the upcoming week!

Fishing Report, Whitefish

Fishing Report WhitefishThe Flathead River is currently flowing at 12,700 cfs, and is fishing great.  We’re expecting some rain and cooler temperatures over the next week. What does this mean for the river? I’m thinking a little more water in the system and a nice slowdown in water temperatures. All of this bodes well for the long-term conditions, and I don’t anticipate any negative impact on the current fishing. I’ll keep you updated as conditions shake out, but for now, the Flathead is great! Think summer flies – Chubbies are absolutely crushing it all day long. Those Westslope cutthroat are incredibly active, and we’re even seeing an occasional rainbow join the party.

Fishing Report, Kalispell

Fishing Report kalispellWhile the Flathead River is right on our doorstep and a fantastic local option, for those willing to take a short, scenic drive, the Clark Fork and Blackfoot Rivers offer truly worthy trips. The Clark Fork has been serving up some excellent dry fly fishing, with anglers finding feisty bigger rainbows and nice cutthroat trout. Over on the Blackfoot, things are equally good, boasting chunky Westslope cutthroat, rainbows, and even the occasional trophy brown trout. Keep your eyes peeled, because the salmonflies are getting close on the Blackfoot – we’ll definitely keep you updated as that big hatch gets going. We’re also seeing some rain in the forecast for both of these rivers, so we’ll make sure to keep you informed on how those conditions shake out.
