Fishing Report, June 28
It’s hard to believe June is almost over. Where does time go? In a few more days it will be July and then the 4th… the weather is shaping up very nicely for the next 7 days. Highs in the 70’s will keep river temps from getting too high and keep the bugs happy. Some rain and clouds are great for the bugs and dry fly fishing. Flows are coming up a bit from the recent rain but the fishing is holding pretty good. The Flathead River, Blackfoot, and Clark Fork Rivers are great trips right now.
Fishing Report, Whitefish
The Flathead River is flowing at 14,800 CFS and the water temps peaked at 51 today. Great flows and water temps. There are lots of bugs on the water, Green Drakes, goldens, pmd and caddis are all in the mix. Dry fly fishing is pretty good later in the day. Some days there are more bugs than others but they are around. With the river dropping so much everyday the fish seem to be moving a bit. Finding them in new places and not in others where they were the day before. Keep moving and looking for new places when the river is changing as much as it is. The Flathead River is a great 1/2 day and full day guided trip right now. Westslope cutthroat and the occasional rainbow make it a fun day.
Fishing Report, Kalispell
The Clark Fork River is about 1.5 hours from Kalispell and is fishing well right now. Bigger rainbows and cuttbows are perfect for those looking for some bigger fish. The Clark Fork is also a bit less busy. You can easily float the river and not see another boat… If you get out early and not a late start. The Blackfoot River is also about 2 hours from Kalispell. It’s fishing great too. Good cutthroat and a surprising number of brown trout have been keeping the day packed with action. Dry dropper in the am and dries in the afternoon. Or the opposite the next day. The Blackfoot is fishing differently every day so changing out what isn’t working is the key to staying on fish that will eat your flies. Salmon flies are still moving around, golden stones on the water as well as gray drakes and PMDs. Caddis are hopping around in the mornings. Good fishing.
