Fishing Report, March 13
Another great week on the river and ice! Ice conditions are still holding in the safe zone and the river is fishing great right now. The weather forecast is looking pretty nice for the next 7 days. Sunny and warm during the day and cold at night. The extended forecast is looking a bit more wintery after that but who knows… That can change as we get closer. The Flathead River is flowing at 3560 cfs and temps are peaking at 40 on the warm sunny days.
Fishing Report, Whitefish
The Flathead River is very close to Whitefish and is fishing great. West Slope Cutthroat with the occasional rainbow trout in the mix. We are seeing some nice fish on the Flathead. Nymphing is very productive. Good drifts in the deeper runs with worms and eggs are solid producers. How about bugs? I haven’t seen any yet but they are close. Water temps are peaking at 40 on warm sunny days. A few more degrees and we could see some BWO’s, then the March Browns are next.. then gray drakes. Dry flies are close…
Fishing Report, Kalispell
The Flathead River is very close to Kalispell also. Another couple of rivers to think about are the Clark Fork and the Blackfoot River. The Clark Fork is on the rise in Missoula so it won’t be long before it’s on the rise below St Regis. The Blackfoot River is holding steady, flows are great and the water temps are very close to 40. I would venture to the Blackfoot if I was looking for something different. Streamers are a great call this time of year. Some bigger brown trout in the upper reaches with great Cutthroat in the middle sections. They’re there… you just have to find them.
