Fishing Report, March 29

March is almost over… Where did March go? Is it just me or does time seem to fly this time of year? The last week has been great on the Flathead River and the Missouri River. Guided trips have been very successful. Folks have been taking advantage of the Spring Guide Special and getting out on the water. The Flathead River is nymhing great and we’re seeing some great fish. The Missouri River is fishing as good as it gets! Lots of rainbows and some days we’re doubled up all day long. The weather forecast is looking amazing next week. I’ll take it while we have it, it’ll be winter again at some point after the warm up.

Fishing Report March 29

Fishing Report, Whitefish

Fishing Report WhitefishThe Flathead River is very close to Whitefish and is a great option if you’re looking to get out on the water for a fun day of fishing. The river is flowing at 3820cfs and water temps are peaking at 42 on sunny days. With the warm weather headed our way, I would expect warmer water temps by Tuesday and possibly some dry fly activity. For now, the nyphing is solid. We’ve been seeing some great cutthroat and rainbow trout in the system. Some of the biggest fish of the year in the system. We’re seeing fish in the 20” range with a few pushing 23”.

Fishing Report, Kalispell

Kalispell is also very close to the Flathead River so let’s do a quick report on the Missouri River. the Missouri River is flowing at 3460 cfs and temps are peaking at 38 on the warmest days. We still have a few more degrees to go before we start to think of BWO’s. Midges are kind of doing their thing on some days. The nymphing is solid right now. Trips are very productive for some nice rainbows. Pink work is very productive right now, size 12 tailwater sow bugs are on fire and anything pink is getting chowed. Good nymphing… Streamer fishing is good right now too. More brown trout with a few rainbows in the mix. That’s gonna change to pretty much all browns in a few. rainbows will be thinking spawn and the browns will be eating.
