Fishing Report, March 5
Spring’s cracking, and the fishing is picking up. Expect those classic Montana spring swings: sunshine and 50s, then a quick snow flurry—great for the snowpack, even better for the river in August. Fish are responding to the warmer days, and we’re seeing some solid action. Next week’s looking prime, so ditch the couch and hit the water. Throw in our famous Spring Guide Special and it’s a no-brainer…
Fishing Report, Whitefish
Ice is thinning, but you can still punch a few holes for another week, tops. Flathead is fishing great right now! 3500 cfs, water’s hitting 40 on sunny days. Seeing some BWO’s pop, even a few dry grabs. Nymphing is solid; cutties and rainbows are chowing standard winter bugs. Deep and slow’s the play, find the seams. Get out there and remember, If you’re not ticking bottom, every once in a while, you’re not deep enough. If that’s not getting you more fish then change the type of water you’re fishing. Slower maybe? Maybe a bit faster? Change up what’s not working and do something different.
Fishing Report, Kalispell
Flathead’s holding steady, same drill as above. Clark Fork’s worth the drive: bugs popping, warmer days, fish are eating. Solid nymphing action, and expect some streamer grabs too. Blackfoot’s gearing up for streamer junkies, big browns and cutts on the prowl. As the water temperatures rise I expect some dry fly fishing on the Blackfoot. I’ll keep you updated as that happens. Missouri’s lights-out, all-day rainbow trout action, worth the run. With light traffic on the river, it is a great option for a full day on the water.
