Fishing Report, November 22

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there! Montana Fishing Guides hopes you’re enjoying a great day with loved ones and maybe even getting out on the water for a morning of fishing! This last week has been a little weird on the local lakes. Colder temps are starting to freeze up the smaller lakes and open water is getting a bit harder to find. The weather for the next 7 days is looking a bit colder with highs in the low 30’s with lows in the teens. If the wind stays down I would expect most of the smaller lakes to cap with ice. That’s a great start. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that temps drop more and we get closer to that 4” mark. I’ll keep you posted as things shake out.

Fishing Report November 22-1

Fishing Report, Whitefish

Whitefish Lake has gotten funky in the last few days. Fish are there but not really interested in eating all of a sudden. It could be the early winter blues from the temperature change. That’ll change though, give it a few days and they’ll start eating again. Probably tomorrow since today was not as active as I would have expected. The Flathead River has been a good trip lately. Lake Superior Whitefish and trout have been active. We’re seeing some bigger than average Cutthroat lately. They’re in there and will definitely eat your flies. Nymphing has been productive and streamers have been productive for bigger fish.

Fishing Report, Kalispell

Flathead River has been fishing great for Lake Superior Whitefish the last week. Those green and gold tubes are very effective when bounced along the bottom. I’ve been seeing a mix of fish full of eggs and fish that are empty. This tells me fish are spawning and some are still staging. It seems there are lots of fish in the system right now. Spinning rods are very effective and some have even been swinging them up on trout spey rods.
