Fishing Report, April 12
How nice has the weather been the last few days? Probably the warmest I’ve felt in April, at least that I can remember. This week end is looking very nice too. Highs in the 60’s. through Wednesday, but then it turns back into real April. Snow, rain, highs in the 30’s and low 40’s with night time temps in the 20’s. It’ll be good to have some more snow and cold next week.
Fishing Report, Whitefish
The Flathead River is flowing at 6000 CFS with water temps bumped to 46 today. Solid report of skwala stoneflies yesterday and lots of mayflies on the water. It’s been years since I’ve seen a skwala on the river so maybe the eclipse brought them out! The forks of the Flathead are on the rise so I would expect the river to blow out if it hasn’t already. Lakes west of Kalispell are fishing good right now. Pike are active and so are lakes with Cutthroat in them. We will keep you up to date on river and lake conditions as they shake out.
Fishing Report, Missouri River
The Missouri River is flowing at 3640 CFS and water temps peaked at 43 today. I did see one BWO levitating off the water so probably more to follow as soon as we get some clouds. Midges are all over the place and fish are eating them. First light is good and the evening is even better. Go out the last hour of the day and you’ll find fish up eating. Streamer fishing has been good one day and tough the next. Sunshine and heat is the enemy with cold and clouds being your friends. No matter which day you go you have to stick with it. Play the game and be effective 110% of the time. Nymphing is solid on the whole river. Sow bugs are the most productive below craig. Long rigs working, short rigs working. The nymphing has been solid.
Guided Trips
Spring Guide Special is still rolling through the end of April. The Flathead is a great option the in the Kalispell and Whitefish areas. If you want to hit the Missouri then now is a great time too. Nice fish, less crowded and good weather. Guides supply all the equipment for the day, are great teachers and will put you on fish! 406-233-9001, give a call anytime. The phone is on 24-7
